Twenty-Two Years Behind the Counter: The Dunkin’ That Knows Downtown by Name

For 22 years, Hayry Dejesus has stood behind the same counter at the Dunkin’ in Tower Square, and in that time she has come to know downtown by heart. She knows her regulars by name, knows their orders, and knows exactly what keeps them coming back: a consistent cup of coffee and, as she puts it, a smile on your face. “We give them a good experience when they walk in,” she says. “We’ve always got good vibes.”

That personal touch has built something real — a loyal daily following and a 4.5-star reputation to match. “I love my job,” Dejesus says. “I’m a people person.”

Two decades in one spot have also given her a sharp read on how downtown works — she says she can practically predict what is coming. And her read is clear: a shop like hers depends on the steady daily crowd downtown draws, the courthouse regulars among them, who turn a morning coffee run into a livelihood for her and her crew.
